A vow renewal is not only a celebration of love, but of marriage. A family is built upon that marriage. As you renew vows to one another, this is also a wonderful time to let your children know how much you love them and are committed to them with vows to them as well. Here are some vows for children and ceremony additions for a vow renewal to inspire you:

Sample Vow to Your Children at Your Vow Renewal

To Spouse:

My love,
You have already given me the two greatest gifts of my life:
your love, and our beautiful child(ren).
Today, it is my honor to renew my commitment to you as your wife/husband.
I promise to continue building our family together,
celebrating our joy,
comforting one another in hard times,
and strengthening our family’s future.
I vow to love and cherish you for all the days of my life.

To Child(ren):

My sweet one(s),
You are the gift(s) our love has brought into the world.
Today, it is not only my honor to renew my commitment to your mother/father,
but to you as well.
I promise to continue celebrating our joy,
comforting you in hard times,
and strengthening our family’s future.
I vow to love and cherish you for all the days of my life.

Sample Vow to Your Child at Your Vow Renewal

To Spouse:

From the day I first met you I knew that you were the one. The one that I would love and treasure for all the days of my life. Together we have grown from youth dreaming of a future to adults planning the rest of our lives together. Our love has only grown stronger and stronger with each passing moment. Just as we thought we had it all, we were blessed with the birth of our beautiful daughter/son. She/he is the living proof of our love. On this day, as we renew our vows to one another, I vow my eternal love and devotion to her/him as well.

To Child:

From the moment I first knew you were going to bless our life, I fell in love with you. I knew that I would love and treasure for all the days of my life. As you have grown from that tiny little one into the young lady/man you are today, my love for you has only grown stronger and stronger with each passing moment. On this day, as your father/mother and I renew our vows to one another, I vow my eternal love and devotion to you as well.

Sample Prayer Acknowledging Your Children for Your Vow Renewal

Heavenly Father, we pray that you guide _____ and ___ as parents to raise and teach (children’s names) with love and respect; and that you protect this family and keep them always in your care. You have kindled in their hearts the fire of a divine and eternal love. We pray you will keep it aflame upon the alter of their souls. We pray you will make the inward aspirations of their hearts the outward reality of their home. And we pray you will make that home a place of light and truth, a place of beauty, a place of joy and happiness all the days of their lives. Amen.

Sample Poem for Acknowledging Your Children for Your Vow Renewal
I would like to share a poem that has been chosen by ____ and ____ for this special moment

What is a Family? – Author Unknown

A family is …..
The sweetest feelings
The warmest hugs
Trust and togetherness
Unconditional love
The stories of our lives written on the same page
The nicest memories anyone has ever made
Treasured photos
Thankful tears
Hearts overflowing with all the years
Being there for one another
Supporting and caring
Understanding, Helping, Sharing
Walking life’s path together
And making the journey more beautiful because …..
We are a family…..
And a family is Love.

The Clay Ceremony Addition to Include Your Children in Your Vow Renewal Ceremony

Note: You will need a keepsake clay hand print kit sold at many arts and craft stores.

Officiant:
“____, you know that your mom and dad are renewing their vows today, but do you know what that means? It means that today they are letting the whole world know that whatever happens, good or bad, that they’ll love each other and be there for each other forever. You are already a family, and you have been the best blessing they could ever ask for. They are so proud of you, and no matter how big you get, or where life takes you, they will always love you with all their hearts. From today on you will all continue to share the love, trust, and respect that comes with being a family.

Will you all please place your thumbs onto this clay and repeat after me:

Love, Trust, and Respect, Now and Forever

Thank you! Thank you!!! I have ben searching everywhere for exactly THIS!!! I love all of these suggestions and will be using a little bit of each!

I love the idea of making the fingerprint impression, if anyone has done this and could share some more details about it, that would be great! Size of clay, shape, kind, what did you do with it afterwards, preserving it until dried/baked, keeping it from drying out before the ceremony…..

    Thanks again!
