Is It Your 25th Wedding Anniversary? Renew Your Vows!

Congratulations on 25 amazing years together! After a quarter-century of love, laughter, and life’s ups and downs, it’s time to celebrate your silver anniversary in style. A vow renewal ceremony is a beautiful way to honor your enduring love and commitment. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve gathered plenty of ideas to help you plan a day that truly reflects your journey. From venue suggestions to unique vow ideas, here’s how to make this milestone celebration unforgettable.

Getting Started: Setting the Tone for Your Celebration

Your 25th anniversary is a silver event, so incorporating silver into your color scheme is a must. Silver pairs beautifully with a variety of hues:

  • Spring: Pair silver with soft pastels like pink, lavender, or yellow.
  • Summer: Combine silver with baby blue or Tiffany blue for a refreshing feel.
  • Fall: Rich shades like eggplant or gold complement silver perfectly.
  • Winter: Opt for bold tones like teal, navy, or red for a dramatic contrast.

Choosing the Perfect Venue

Where do you want to renew your vows? It’s entirely up to you! If you’re keeping it small, consider holding the ceremony at home. Planning a larger event? You could host both the ceremony and reception at a single venue to simplify logistics. And if you’re dreaming of a getaway, why not opt for a destination vow renewal and make the most of your 25th anniversary by traveling to a special place?

Invitations: What to Include

When it comes to invitations, the wording depends on your ceremony type:

  • Civil Ceremony: Request the “pleasure” of your guests’ company.
  • Religious Ceremony: Use the word “honor” for a more traditional tone.

Whichever route you choose, don’t forget to ask for RSVPs to ensure you have an accurate guest count!

Capturing the Moment: Photography & Videography

Photos are a must for this once-in-a-lifetime event! Hire the best photographer within your budget to capture these special moments. If you’re working with a tighter budget, ask a talented friend or family member to help out. And while hiring a videographer is optional, having a video keepsake of your ceremony will be a treasured memory for years to come.

What to Wear: Anniversary Attire

Your vow renewal is a perfect opportunity to wear something special. For you: Feel free to choose any dress that makes you feel beautiful, whether it’s white or in a different color. For him: A tux or a tailored suit will work perfectly. If your husband chooses a suit, why not surprise him with a new one for the occasion?

Flowers and Alternatives

Flowers always add elegance to an event. You could carry a bouquet of classic white or red flowers, and your husband could wear a matching boutonniere. Not a fan of flowers? Consider creative alternatives like crystals, feathers, brooches, or even paper flowers for a unique twist.

Thoughtful Gift Ideas for Your 25th Anniversary

The 25th anniversary is known as the silver anniversary, so traditional gifts often include silver items like jewelry, photo frames, or keepsakes. Choose something meaningful that reflects your time together, or get creative with a custom silver gift that speaks to your shared experiences.

Renewal Ceremony: Personalize Your Vows

The heart of your 25th anniversary celebration is your vow renewal ceremony. Personalize your vows by reflecting on your journey together and what you’re looking forward to in the future. Consider including elements of your life now that weren’t part of your original vows. Tip: Make your ceremony extra special by including your children or close family members with readings or special roles.

Rings: A Symbol of Enduring Love

Exchanging rings is optional, but a great way to mark your 25th anniversary. Many couples take this opportunity to upgrade their rings or add an anniversary band. If you’re feeling sentimental, you can even opt for a new set of rings to symbolize your continued commitment.

Processional Music: Choose a Meaningful Song

Your music sets the tone for your ceremony, so choose a song that represents your journey as a couple. It could be a favorite song from your wedding day or a meaningful tune that’s accompanied you through your years together.

Reception: Celebrate with Family & Friends

Your reception can be as relaxed or formal as you’d like. Whether it’s a cozy cake and coffee gathering, an elegant cocktail party under the stars, or a full dinner and dancing event, the key is to make it personal and enjoyable for you and your guests.

Reception Details: Food, Cake, and Drinks

Food options for vow renewals can range from simple to lavish. Consider:

  • A buffet with a variety of choices for guests.
  • A fun cupcake bar where guests can decorate their own desserts.
  • Signature cocktails that represent your journey together.

When it comes to your anniversary cake, you can replicate your wedding cake, opt for a two-tiered cake, or even go for something unique like a selection of pies or ice cream.

Dancing and Music

Whether you hire a live band, DJ, or create your own playlist, dancing is a fun way to celebrate your milestone anniversary. Choose songs that mean something to you both or represent key moments in your relationship.

Reception Decorations: Silver Anniversary Touches

Use silver throughout your reception décor to honor your 25 years together. Some ideas include:

  • String lights and candles for an intimate ambiance.
  • Silver balloons and table accents like silver candles in candelabras.
  • Photo displays from different stages of your relationship.

Final Thoughts

Remember, your vow renewal is all about celebrating your love. Plan the event that best suits you as a couple, and don’t stress over the small details. The most important thing is to enjoy the celebration and reflect on the wonderful journey you’ve shared over the last 25 years. May 25th 2019 we will be renewing our vows, planning for the same place we were originally married, colors are purple, silver and Caribbean blue, My daughter who was the original flower girl will now walk me down the isle(both sets of parents have passed) We will have a family picture from the wedding sitting on a table . Her daughter will be the flower girl. The Best man not sure if he wants one. The ring bearer will be one of my young grandsons.

I do have a question? what is the best way to ask for money for a second honeymoon, I have created an event on Facebook(the family all does FB) just not sure how to word the request.

Since gifts are not traditionally given for a vow renewal, unless it’s a milestone anniversary, there isn’t a proper way to make your request. Some couples do choose to set up a “go fund me” type of account that they then share on Facebook and make their requests known for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, etc.

Hi. We are renewing our wedding vows for our 25th anniversary with a mass in the church just like a wedding. My question is: do we march together as a couple or does my husband wait for me at the altar?
    Thank you

You will want to check with your church coordinator about their specific rules for the vow renewal processional. Typically, it is up to the couple to decide if they prefer to walk together or not. Some couples find that walking together is especially lovely as representative of their intentions for their vow renewal. Others, who missed out on the special moment of seeing one another the first time, opt to have the wife walk down the aisle alone or with another escort. Since no one is “giving you away,” your escort can be anyone of your choosing.
